Summer 2005: Umbria
We flew from Gatwick to Rome Ciampino with EasyJet. We picked up our hire car which was an upgrade to a Fiat Stilo Estate. Naturally being left-hand drive it took a bit of getting used to! We also got lost about three times on our way to Frascati, but got there just in time for the fireworks display. We stayed the night in a nice little hotel and then set off the next morning for our holiday house - a converted farm building in Umbria. This too took a little finding, but after finding ourselves at the end of a narrow dead-end street in what we had thought was the right village, and having to reverse down a windy hill, we eventually got there.
This is the garden, where we could pick all sorts of produce including tomatoes, lettuce and figs.

Orvieto
Orvieto is about an hour's drive along a very windy road - Olivia kept feeling sick. Going there was imperative, as Steve had learnt a little about it when studying Italian years ago. We climbed the 214 steps up the clock tower. Here are the girls at the top.
Perugia
Just a short drive up the autostrada (or a slightly longer drive along an awful backroad (but with nice views) where the signs actually direct you :) ) is Perugia.
Assisi
Montefalco and Spoleto
This was our last day in Umbria then it was on to Rome, so we invited the owners, Piero and Cristina, their children, Elvira and Nicola, and Nonna Stella over for a drink and biscuits.
